Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Banks fiery at 'Hunger Games' event
For fans of the young-adult series "The Hunger Games," this is a banner week. The film version opens to U.S. audiences this coming Friday, and the cast has been on a global tour for the last week at official premieres in cities around the world.
It struck me when I looked at this photo from the German premiere a couple of days ago that the dresses worn by Elizabeth Banks, left (who plays Effie Trinket), and Jennifer Lawrence (who plays heroine Katniss Everdeen in the film and is in a hand-draped lace frock by Marchesa here) look like they could stand in for the flame dress that Katniss wears in the story -- at least, judging by their color they could.

'Hunger Games' Soundtrack: Pre-Game With An Expert Playlist
Hobnobbing helps you get to know the album's featured artists through their best works.
On Monday, Taylor Swift will enter the MTV arena to debut the music video for her Civil Wars collaboration, "Safe and Sound," which appears on the "Hunger Games" soundtrack. And following the premiere, the country cutie will stick around MTV.com for an exclusive 30-minute interview about the lead single, her upcoming projects and more. So for Peeta's sake, tune in, OK?
But as any "Hunger Games" fan can attest, Swift isn't the only artist to be reaped for the T-Bone Burnett-produced companion album (out March 20). Arcade Fire, the Decemberists, Neko Case and Miranda Lambert are all reportedly contributing to the effort. So to prepare for what's sure to be an epic soundtrack, we've asked several music experts to recommend top tunes from each performer—a pre-Games playlist, if you will. So put down your bow and arrow, grab your earbuds and settle in with these hand-picked selections:

'Hunger Games' Won't Be Narrated By Katniss
For our fellow "Hunger Games" fans who are following each and every detail released about the upcoming big-screen adaptation, one of the key questions is how the filmmakers will address the fact that a large amount of the story is told via Katniss' inner monologue. Will we be hearing Jennifer Lawrence narrate throughout the film via voice-over or will we see the action from multiple characters' perspectives?
Today is our lucky day, because we have an answer straight from director Gary Ross himself, who told MTV News recently that after much careful consideration he is not using any voice-over.
"I'm not using voice-over for her. This thing is all from Katniss' perspective," he said of the story. "It is a first-person point of view. How do we put the viewer immediately and urgently in that experience they had when they read the book and they're in Katniss Everdeen's shoes? A lot of that is done cinematically. I spent a lot of time wondering and thinking about at the beginning of this process, 'What does it really mean to be in the character's point of view cinematically?' I looked at a lot of really interesting references for that, but it comes down to: You don't know more than the character knows."

'Hunger Games' Cast Have Their Eyes On The Prize In New Still
We're never not-hungry for new info from the upcoming "Hunger Games" movie, and today, we're gobbling up this latest tidbit like WHOA: a new still from the film! The just-released photo (via The L.A. Times) shows Katniss, Effie and Haymitch on a couch at the Capitol, eyes fixed on...um. You know, we don't know what, actually. But from the distressed expressions on everyone's faces, we're guessing it's not a fun and funky new episode of "Panem's Got Talent." Even Haymitch, with a mysterious (and undoubtedly strong!) brown-colored drink in hand, looks positively nauseated by whatever he's looking at. What could it be? Footage from a previous Hunger Games? A behind-the-scenes look at the making of muttations? Newly leaked footage from the President Snow sex tape?
...Okay, now we're nauseated.

'Hunger Games': Katniss and Peeta ready to set the Games on fire -- EXCLUSIVE PHOTO飢餓遊戲-燃燒的女孩
Everyone who has read Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games has a specific mental image of what this world and its characters should look like, especially certain crucial scenes like the opening ceremonies of the Games. Well, bravo, Gary Ross and company. In this exclusive photo from the moments just before their introduction, Cinna (Lenny Kravitz) readies a final flaming flourish to Peeta and Katniss’s black costumes. “This is one of those moments where Cinna’s character syncs up with the creativity of our costume designer Judianna Makovsky,” says Ross. (Makovsky earned Oscar nominations for her work on Ross’ previous movies Pleasantville and Seabiscuit.) “What Cinna was trying to do was create something that came out of District 12, out of a coal mining world, with a fresh, bold look to it. So Judianna went to this wonderful black reflective material that glistened like coal or graphite and would obviously work well in the Tribute parade where Katniss becomes the Girl on Fire.”
When it comes to the cinematic adaptation of literary wunderkind "The Hunger Games," there's probably no more challenging scene to realize onscreen than the one where Katniss and Peeta emerge at the opening ceremony wearing morbid all-black ensembles, and suddenly burst into flame. But while we've had a great time imagining what that moment would look like—even going so far as sketch out our very own vision of the outfit—thanks to an exclusive new still from Entertainment Weekly, we don't have to wonder anymore. 'Cause we're getting a real, actual early look at how Cinna (and by Cinna, we mean costume designer Judianna Makovsky) put the iconic look together! And all together now: OOOOOOOH.

'Hunger Games' Nail Polish Is A Go: Will These Things Be Next?
We don't often think of the words "Panem" and "primping" in the same sentence, but leave it to merchandise-happy Hollywood to find a savvy way to make it happen! After much debate and a few important conceptual tweaks, the "Hunger Games" nail polish line is back in business; Lionsgate, the studio releasing the film, will partner with China Glaze to release a "Colors from the Capitol" series of nail enamels designed to evoke the glitzy, appearance-obsessed world of the dystopian capital city. The hues will hit store shelves March 1, 2012.
Skewing the tie-in to be Capitol-specific was a good move for the studio—and hopefully, a salve for the annoyed fans who pointed out that the original nail polish concept wasn't exactly in line with the dark, depressing world of District 12 (where, let's be honest, the residents are too busy starving, mining and plotting revolution to bother with piffling nonsense like manicures.) The whole hullabaloo got us thinking about other weird "Hunger Games" tie-ins that would leave fans scratching their heads. For example...
